Joyous Celebration

Joyous Celebration is a South African gospel music ensemble and choir that performs contemporary Christian worship music. The group was formed in 1994 by Mthunzi Namba, Jabu Hlongwane, and Lindelani Mkhize. It was established as a live gospel worship event to commemorate South Africa's transition to democracy and the end of apartheid. The ensemble is known for its large-scale live concert recordings and annual tours across South African cities. The choir performs a mix of contemporary and traditional gospel music, often incorporating multiple languages including Zulu, Xhosa, and English. The group has released over 25 albums, typically recorded live at major venues. Notable releases in their catalog include *Joyous Celebration 25 - Still We Rise* and *Joyous Celebration 21: Heal Our Land*. Their songs include *Yesu Wena UnguMhlobo*, *Ndenzel' Uncedo*, *Wakhazimula*, and *Uyalalelwa*. The group serves as a training ground for South African gospel talent, with many members launching successful solo careers. Joyous Celebration has won 10 South African Music Awards (SAMA). In 2021, the group signed a record deal with Universal Music Group.
