About Michelle Williams
Michelle Williams is an American singer and actress who rose to international prominence as a member of the R&B group Destiny's Child and has maintained a consistent career as a solo gospel artist. She began her musical journey in her hometown of Rockford, Illinois, singing in the choir at St. Paul Church of God in Christ. In 2002, she became the first member of Destiny's Child to release a solo album, the contemporary gospel collection *Heart to Yours*.
Her debut solo album, *Heart to Yours*, topped the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart and was the best-selling gospel release of 2002. That same year, she received a MOBO Award for "Best Gospel Act," and Billboard named her the fifth top-charting gospel artist of the year. She released her second gospel album, *Do You Know*, in 2004, which also achieved high positions on the Gospel and Christian album charts.
Throughout her career, Williams has balanced secular music with her gospel roots, often defending her faith and her commitment to gospel music in interviews. She has been open about her faith journey, including her struggles with depression and her reliance on her Christian faith. Her fourth solo studio album, *Journey to Freedom* (2014), features the gospel-influenced single "Say Yes," which included her Destiny's Child bandmates Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland.
