Sun Will Shine Again

Michelle Williams starts with a candid admission: “The situation don't look good. / I know you'd change it if you could.” The answer arrives as a promise repeated again and again, “The sun will shine again,” with the added assurance that “this is not the way it will end.” Weather does most of the work: after “the pouring rain,” the night moves away and “joy will come, rest and stay.”

Tears are treated as part of the healing, not a failure of faith, since “the healing flows from our eyes.” God is named only once, in the line “There's still some ray of hope / Cause God is in control,” but the encouragement around it is plain: “Hold your head up my friend,” “keep the faith, don't give up and don't give in.” The long closing vamp piles on “Just believe it” and “It might take a little while,” admitting that the wait is real.

Psalm 30:5, “Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning,” is the closest scriptural match, and Psalm 27:14's call to wait for the Lord and be strong supports the song's insistence on patience.
