PJ Morton

PJ Morton (born Paul Sylvester Morton Jr. on March 29, 1981) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer whose work often explores the intersection of sacred and secular music. The son of Bishop Paul S. Morton, a celebrated gospel singer and founder of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship, Morton grew up immersed in the church. He later joined the pop-rock band Maroon 5 as a touring member in 2010 before becoming an official member in 2012. Morton has released multiple solo studio albums, including *New Orleans* (2013), *Gumbo* (2017), and *Gospel According to PJ* (2020). His catalog reflects his background as a "preacher's kid," navigating the complexities of faith and artistic expression. In 2009, he authored the book *Why Can't I Sing About Love? The Truth About the Church Against Secular Music*, and in 2016, he founded his own record label, Morton Records. A multi-Grammy Award winner, Morton has received six Grammy Awards in total. His album *Gospel According to PJ* won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album. The album features collaborations including "The Better Benediction" with Zacardi Cortez and Erica Campbell, and "All in His Plans" with Le'Andria Johnson and Mary Mary.
