About Mary Mary
Mary Mary is an American gospel music duo formed in 1998 in Inglewood, California, consisting of sisters Erica Atkins-Campbell and Tina Atkins-Campbell. The duo’s name is a reference to the two women named Mary in the Bible, the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene. They first performed in local churches and gospel competitions before working as backup singers for R&B acts.
The group is credited with expanding the audience for gospel music by incorporating elements of soul, hip-hop, jazz, and funk. They released their debut album, *Thankful*, in 2000, which sold over two million copies in the United States. The album earned them a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album in 2001 and is certified two-time platinum by the RIAA. Their catalog includes songs such as "Shackles (Praise You)," "God in Me," "Walking," "Heaven," "Yesterday," "Get Up," "In the Morning," and "Can't Give Up Now."
Subsequent albums *Incredible* (2002) and *Mary Mary* (2005) are certified gold by the RIAA. Mary Mary has received multiple accolades, including four Grammy Awards and seventeen Stellar Awards. The duo also starred in their own reality television series, *Mary Mary*, on WE tv from 2012 to 2017.
