Song Meaning

A testimony of rescue shapes the first verse: "He led me out of the desert, brought me into His streams, a river of living water, turned my bitter into sweet." The streams recall John 4:14, and "turned my bitter into sweet" recalls the bitter waters made sweet in Exodus 15:25. The next line adds "all my burdens are lifted, took the shackles off my feet," and the verse ends on the idea behind the song: "there's no sound louder than the captives set free."

The chorus is the title, taken from Psalm 107:2, "let the redeemed of the Lord say so." It asks the redeemed to "sing of His promises evermore, pour out your thankfulness, let it overflow." The verse two details are joy and purpose, "there is joy in the morning, springing up in my soul," close to Psalm 30:5, and "there is life worth living, 'cause He calls me His own."

A short bridge speaks to God directly, "You are my deliverer, the freedom I'm living in, You are my promised land." The text closes with a note that the song was sung by Josh Baldwin live at Bethel Church. The structure is plain, with two verses, a repeated chorus and the brief bridge.

Verse
He led me out of the desert, brought me into his streams
A river of living water, turned my bitter into sweet
All my burdens are lifted, took the shackles off my feet
Now there’s no sound louder than the captives set free

Chorus
So let the redeemed of the Lord say so
Sing of his promises evermore
Pour out your thankfulness, let it overflow
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so

Verse 2
There is joy in the morning, springing up in my soul
There is life worth living cause he calls me his own
There's a hallelujah, after sweet victory
There’s no sound louder than the captives set free

Chorus
So let the redeemed of the Lord say so
Sing of his promises evermore
Pour out your thankfulness, let it overflow
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so

Bridge
You are my deliver
The freedom I’m living in
You are my deliver
You are my promised land
sung by Josh Baldwin live at Bethel Church
