Breathe - This is the air I breathe

"Breathe" narrows worship down to two comparisons and refuses to add a third: God's presence is air, his word is daily bread. Both images describe something a body cannot store up and forget about — air has to be drawn in again with every breath, bread was gathered fresh each morning in the wilderness rather than kept overnight — so the song is less about gratitude for God's presence than about an ongoing, repeated need for it. "I'm desperate for you" and "I'm lost without you" get sung far more times than the verses themselves, and that repetition is doing the work the lyrics don't spell out: this isn't a song about wanting more of God in a vague sense, it's a song built to be sung until the words stop feeling like performance and start feeling like an actual physical need, the way breathing does. The spoken aside about hunger for God near the end confirms that reading — the song was written to be prayed, not just performed.
