Lion And The Lamb

Bethel Music's “Lion And The Lamb” takes its two pictures of Christ from Revelation. The first verse looks ahead to his return: “He's coming on the clouds, kings and kingdoms will bow down, and every chain will break as broken hearts declare His praise.” The pre-chorus asks, “For who can stop the Lord Almighty?”

The chorus describes each image in turn. “Our God is the Lion, the Lion of Judah, He's roaring with power and fighting our battles, and every knee will bow before Him.” Then, “Our God is the Lamb, the Lamb that was slain for the sins of the world, His blood breaks the chains.” The bridge calls on the gates to open, “make way before the King of Kings, the God who comes to save is here to set the captives free.” It repeats that no one can stop him, ending with “every knee will bow.” The combined image links strength and sacrifice in one person.

The Lion and the Lamb appear in Revelation 5:5-6. Every knee bowing is Philippians 2:10, and setting captives free is Isaiah 61:1.
