My King Forever
Song Meaning
Bethel Music's “My King Forever” opens with a statement of what Christ did on the cross. The singer says you gave your life for mine, nailed to the cross, and that sin and shame were crucified and washed by his mercy. He calls Jesus the treasure he finds and his reason for living.
The singer then asks that his life become an offering to the one who is worthy. The chorus gives all praise to the Lord most high, to the one who saved his life, to Jesus Christ, the High King of Heaven and his King forever. The second verse describes how Christ stormed the gates of his heart, tore the veil apart, and now holds the keys to the grave. It says he brings things to life and rolls stones away, a line that points to the empty tomb. The bridge moves into surrender, with hands lifted, a whole life laid down and the repeated statement that his whole life now is for the Lord. The writing moves in a clear order from the cross, to a changed heart, to the resurrection, to a lifted response, and the music builds with each step. The simple chorus is easy for a congregation to learn, so it has become a common closing song in church services and conferences. It fits Easter as well as ordinary Sundays.
The torn veil is Matthew 27:51. The keys of death and the grave are Revelation 1:18, and offering your body as a living sacrifice is Romans 12:1.
Nailed to the cross
You crucified all my sin and shame
It was washed by Your mercy
You are the treasure I find
My reason for living
So let my life become an offering
To the One who is worthy
And all praise to the Lord most high
All praise to the One who saved my life
All praise to Jesus Christ
High King of Heaven
My King forever
You stormed the gates of my heart
The veil in between was torn apart
Now You hold the keys to the grave
'Cause You bring things to life
You roll stones away
And all praise to the Lord most high
All praise to the One who saved my life
All praise to Jesus Christ
High King of Heaven
My King forever
All praise to the Lord most high
All praise to the One who saved my life
All praise to Jesus Christ
High King of Heaven
My King forever
So I lift my hands up
Lay my whole life down
My whole life down before You
I lift my hands up
Lay my whole life down
My whole life now is for You
And I lift my hands up
Lay my whole life down
My whole life down before You
I lift my hands up
Lay my whole life down
My whole life now is for You, everyone
And I lift my hands up
Lay my whole life down
My whole life down before You
I lift my hands up
Lay my whole life down
My whole life now is for You, yeah
And all praise to the Lord most high
All praise to the One who saved my life
All praise to Jesus Christ
High King of Heaven
My King forever
All praise to the Lord most high
All praise to the One who saved my life
All praise to Jesus Christ
High King of Heaven
My King forever
I lift my hands up
Lay my whole life down
My whole life down before You
I lift my hands up
Lay my whole life down
My whole life now is for You
And all praise to the Lord most high
All praise to the One who saved my life
All praise to Jesus Christ
High King of Heaven
My King forever
