On The Shores

Bethel Music's "On the Shores" opens with an unusual image for a worship song — not a mountaintop or a throne room, but a beach, tears and disappointment pictured as something to be washed away by the tide. "On the shores of my soul, I give you permission to wash my tears away" frames vulnerability as an invitation rather than something reluctantly admitted.

"On the top of my cage I am sitting, year above the shame so lonely, Your kindness it has lifted me" leans on the same reversal the psalmist describes — mourning turned into dancing, sackcloth exchanged for gladness, not through effort but through someone else's kindness doing the lifting.

"I'm gonna sing out loud, gonna let my voice be heard, it's a song of victory, and it's ringing in the earth" turns the song outward by its second half — what started as a private request for comfort becomes something meant to be heard well beyond the person originally asking for it. The repeated "hallelujah" closing the song keeps that victory aimed at praise rather than just personal relief.
