Baba Yetu, yetu uliye
Mbinguni yetu, yetu amina
Baba Yetu, yetu uliye ku
Jina lako eh litukuzwe
Utupe leo chakula chetu tunachohitaji
Utusamehe makosa yetu, hey
Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe waliotukosea
Usitutie katika majaribu
Lakini utuokoe na yule mwovu milele na milele
Baba Yetu, yetu uliye
Mbinguni yetu, yetu amina
Baba Yetu, yetu uliye ku
Jina lako eh litukuzwe
ufalme wako ufike
utakalo lifanyike
Lifanyike duniani kama mbinguni Amina
Baba Yetu, yetu uliye
Mbinguni yetu, yetu amina
Baba Yetu, yetu uliye ku
Jina lako eh litukuzwe
Utupe leo chakula chetu tunachohitaji
Utusamehe makosa yetu, hey
Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe waliotukosea
Usitutie katika majaribu
Lakini utuokoe na yule ibilisi mwovu milele
Baba Yetu, yetu uliye
Mbinguni yetu, yetu amina
Baba Yetu, yetu uliye ku
Jina lako eh litukuzwe
Baba Yetu (Our Father)
Christopher Tin's 'Baba Yetu' is a Swahili rendition of the Lord's Prayer, set to music. The song, performed by Alex Boyé and the BYU Men's Chorus and Philharmonic, directly adapts the biblical prayer from Matthew 6:9-13, addressing God as 'Our Father' and petitioning for daily bread, forgiveness, and deliverance from evil. It is widely recognized as the first video game theme (from Civilization IV) to win a Grammy, but its lyrics are purely scriptural and devotional. The piece is a reverent, worshipful setting of a foundational Christian prayer, sung in Swahili.
