Divine Explanation

A wrecked car sets the scene for "Divine Explanation": red and white lights, hazard signals, a narrator who admits "I've sold away all my fight." David Dunn lets the pain sound unresolved, with a thought that "loops over and over again": "Why did this happen to me, not to them?"

Against that loop, the chorus offers an explanation the speaker can't yet read, a "new revelation / A way to see these things like they are," described as "more beautiful than all the stars." The verses admit this is not the first ditch, and that climbing out "is gonna hurt." Before the final choruses, the writer decides that "all I have to do / Is ask of you" and that perception will follow, and the closing lines concede that the good in it, "good for you, good for me," is something "we just can't see" yet.

The posture fits Isaiah 55:8-9, where God's ways exceed ours, and Paul's "now we see in a mirror dimly" in 1 Corinthians 13:12. Asking for clearer sight echoes James 1:5, which promises wisdom to anyone who asks.
