Fade

David Dunn keeps guilt specific rather than abstract in "Fade" — "I think back on the days I was writing my own story, got reminders still before me, of mistakes that I made, and my heart is just so heavy with the moments I'm regretting." The regret is named as ongoing, not settled.

"He has rescued me, all the guilt, and all the shame, and the darkness of my yesterdays will fade as the light comes flooding in" pairs rescue with a gradual process rather than an instant erasure. "Can't change my history, or shake who I used to be, but a little more each day I'm watching shadows fade" admits the past stays factually true even as its grip weakens.

"In my head I believe He is greater than my ugly, overcomer of my stumbling, but in my heart it's hard to see" closes the verse honestly, naming the gap between what's believed and what's felt, before the chorus repeats its promise regardless of which one currently feels true.
