Reign Above It All

Bethel Music and Paul McClure sing “Reign Above It All” about the end of darkness's rule. The first verse says, “The reign of darkness now has ended, in the kingdom of light, forever under Your dominion, You're the King of my life.” The chorus is a short statement of rank: “You reign above it all, over the universe and over every heart, there is no higher name.”

The second verse moves to the cross. “On the cross, the work was finished, God, You poured out Your life just to give us new life.” That leads to the response of those who were forgiven: “Now from the lips of the forgiven, hear an anthem arise, 'cause Jesus You're alive.” The bridge describes heaven and earth joining the song, and says Jesus “sent the darkness running out of an empty grave” and is now “enthroned on the highest praise.”

Being moved out of darkness into the kingdom is Colossians 1:13. The finished work is John 19:30, and the highest name is Philippians 2:9.
