Mighty to Save

Hillsong Worship's “Mighty to Save” begins with a statement about need instead of strength: “Everyone needs compassion, love that's never failing.” The first verse lists compassion, forgiveness and “the kindness of a saviour,” and it asks, “Let mercy fall on me.” The setup makes the chorus read as an answer to something the song has already named.

The chorus names Jesus in two roles at once. “Saviour, he can move the mountains, my God is mighty to save” brings power and rescue together, and the second half goes to the resurrection, “Author of salvation, he rose and conquered the grave.” The second verse is a personal response: “Take me as You find me, all my fears and failures, fill my life again,” followed by “I give my life to follow everything I believe in. Now I surrender.” The bridge widens to the world, “Shine your light and let the whole world see.”

The title phrase comes from Zephaniah 3:17, which calls God a mighty warrior who saves. Mary's song in Luke 1:49 says the Mighty One has done great things, and the line about conquering the grave echoes 1 Corinthians 15:55.
