Hillsong Worship compresses an entire Easter narrative into a handful of lines here — "rejected and despised, suffered crucified" giving way, within the same short chorus, to "risen from the grave, salvation has been made." The song doesn't build slowly toward that turn; it holds both truths at once, calling Jesus "Holy One of God" and "Son of righteousness" in the same breath as "risen Lamb of God."

Isaiah had already described that rejection centuries before the cross made it literal, writing that the coming servant would be "despised and rejected" in Isaiah 53:3 — the same suffering this chorus names outright.

The song's final declaration — "death is swallowed up in victory" — quotes Paul directly from 1 Corinthians 15:54, and "worthy is the Lamb that was slain" echoes the heavenly worship scene in Revelation 5:12. In under a minute of lyrics, Hillsong Worship moves from suffering to resurrection to unqualified praise, without pausing to soften any part of the sequence.
