I Will Run To You

Hillsong Worship's “I Will Run To You” begins with a line borrowed from a well-known hymn: “Your eye is on the sparrow, and Your hand, it comforts me.” The first verse then widens the view, asking for mercy and strength to be seen “from the ends of the Earth to the depth of my heart.” The second describes being called to a purpose that even angels can only look at, and asks God to “draw all men” for his glory.

The chorus is the singer's response. “And I will run to You, to Your words of truth” sets a destination, and the next line borrows a verse as its motto, “Not by might, not by power, but by the Spirit of God.” The song ends with a commitment to finish, “Yes, I will run the race 'til I see Your face,” and a request to “live in the glory of Your grace.” The run is toward God more than away from trouble.

The sparrow is from Matthew 10:29, where not one falls without the Father's notice. “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit” is Zechariah 4:6, and running the race follows Hebrews 12:1.
