Your Word
Song Meaning
Hillsong Worship's “Your Word” treats Scripture as something that predates and outlasts everything else. The first verse begins with creation: “Before the earth knew its foundations, You spoke the dust into creation.” It then jumps to the end, “when all has withered,” and says, “still Your Word will endure forever.” The sweep from first to last gives the line more weight than a simple statement of trust would.
The pre-chorus borrows a familiar picture: “the lamp unto my feet, the light unto my path.” The chorus is a set of confident claims, “Your Word will not be shaken, Your Word will never fail me,” and describes its effect as “like a fire in my bones, like a whisper to my soul.” The second verse brings in the worshipper's side. “Deep calls to deep within Your presence” and when God speaks, the soul awakens, the Spirit leads the heart to worship, and the Word “reveals the light of Jesus.”
The lamp and light lines are Psalm 119:105. The word that endures when all withers is Isaiah 40:8, and deep calling to deep is Psalm 42:7. Fire in the bones comes from Jeremiah 20:9.
You spoke the dust, into creation
Until the end, when all has withered
Then still Your Word, will endure forever
The lamp unto my feet
The light unto my path
Ohh
Your Word, will not be shaken
Your Word, will never fail me
Like a fire in my bones
Like a whisper to my soul
Your Word, is revelation
Deep calls to deep, within Your presence
When I hear You speak, my soul awakens
Your Spirit leads, my heart to worship
As Your Word reveals, the light of Jesus
The lamp unto my feet
The light unto my path
Ohh
Your Word, will not be shaken
Your Word, will never fail me
Like a fire in my bones
Like a whisper to my soul
Your Word, is revelation
Ohh
Your Word, will not be shaken
Your Word, will never fail me
Like a fire in my bones
Like a whisper to my soul
Your Word, is revelation
Your Word, will not be shaken
Your Word, will never fail me
Like a fire in my bones
Like a whisper to my soul
Your Word, is revelation
Your Word, will never fail me
Like a fire in my bones
Like a whisper to my soul
Your Word, is revelation
