God Is Coming
Song Meaning
Jesus Culture's “God Is Coming” begins with a surrender in a single moment: here I am, and all I have is in your hands. The singer says God stole his heart, so he will wait for him, and that a fire of love is breaking through. The old is gone and something new has come, because God won his heart.
The chorus shifts to expectation. Our God is coming, the singers can hear the heavens roar, and they tell each other to hold on and get ready for the glory of the Lord. The next section pictures him running to find them, the King of the universe, the God who saves, coming to light up the darkness and being forever glorious. The bridge prays for a world torn apart, asking for courage and heart. It says only God can raise the dead to life, and asks him to take their voices, keep them strong, shake the earth with heaven's song and take what is wrong and make it right. The song ends with the plain statements that the Lord is great, that he is Lord and God is great. Jesus Culture records live in large gatherings, and the track builds from a quiet start to a big finish with shouted vocals.
The prayer that God would come down is Isaiah 64:1. The voice of the Lord over the waters is Psalm 29:3-4, and the Lord roaring from Zion is Joel 3:16.
All I have is in Your hands
You stole my heart so I will wait for You
Your fire of love is breaking through
The old is gone there's something new
You won my heart so I will wait for You
Our God is coming
We can hear the Heavens roar
Hold on get ready for the glory of the Lord
Here You come running to find me
King of the universe
Yes our God is the God who saves
Here You come to light up the darkness
Forever glorious
Yes our God is the God who saves
In a world that's torn apart
Give us courage give us heart
Only You can raise the dead to life
Take our voices keep us strong
Shake the earth with heavens song
Only you can take what's wrong and make it right
Great is the Lord
You are Lord
God is great
