How Great Is Our God

Jesus Culture's version of “How Great Is Our God” is a short worship song that celebrates the greatness of God. The first lines picture the splendor of the King clothed in majesty, with all the earth called to rejoice. They describe God wrapping himself in light so that darkness trembles at his voice.

The chorus is a call to sing together: how great is our God, sing with me, all will see. The second verse widens the view to time itself, saying that from age to age he stands, time is in his hands, and he is the beginning and the end. It then names the Godhead, three in one, Father, Spirit and Son, and calls Jesus the Lion and the Lamb. A closing section sings of the name above all names, worthy of all praise, and says that the heart will sing how great our God is. The text is brief and stays with praise, so a congregation can take in each line without getting lost. The melody and the repeated chorus have made the song a staple in many churches, and this recording gives it a longer, more expressive arrangement. It suits the opening of a service, a time of reflection on the nature of God or any gathering that wants to start with who God is before asking for anything.
