They Need Love

Jonny Diaz tells two separate stories here — a man hardened by years of being preached at, a woman working the street 'just blocks away from a house of god' — and both share the same diagnosis: not a lack of correct information, but a lack of love extended without conditions attached. 'He still sits with a heart of stone, 'cause condemnation is all he's known' names exactly what hasn't worked so far.

'We gotta reach our hands to wash some feet' echoes John 13:14's account of Jesus washing his disciples' feet and instructing them to do the same for one another — a specific, humbling, physical act rather than a comfortable metaphor. 'If we're gonna serve the least of these' pulls directly from Matthew 25:40's teaching that whatever is done for 'one of the least of these' is done for Christ himself. 'We gotta step off of our pedestals' names the actual obstacle plainly — not a lack of theological correctness, but a posture of looking down rather than reaching across.
