The Great Unknown

Matty Mullins starts "The Great Unknown" with an admission: "I get so stuck inside my comfort zone / I point the finger but the blame is my own." The verse is a confession first, a request second, and the ask is plain: "Lord take me somewhere, my heart has to grow."

The chorus shifts from stuckness to appetite. He wants to "break out," to live "a life that relies on you alone," and to "walk with the faith and strength that is not my own." That last phrase carries the theology of the song, since the courage he is asking for is borrowed from God rather than summoned. The second verse supplies the reason, "I know you're calling me to greater things / Beyond the limits of my insecurities," and pictures him out in waters "far too deep" where love begins "changing me."

A short bridge boils it down to a promise, "You lead, I'll follow into the unknown," before the chorus returns twice more. The picture echoes Abraham, who went out "not knowing where he went," and the call to trust God over one's own understanding. It suits anyone facing a move, a calling, or a decision they can't see the end of.
