Amazing Love How Can It be

Every line of the opening verse is an exchange: "I'm forgiven because you were forsaken, and I'm accepted, you were condemned." Forgiveness is paired with forsakenness and acceptance with condemnation, so the cross is described as a substitution rather than a general statement of praise.

The next line moves from legal standing to daily life: "I'm alive and well, your spirit is within me, because you died and rose again." The singer's present vitality is tied to a specific death and resurrection. Then the question arrives in the chorus, "Amazing love, how can it be, that you my king would die for me," and the song answers it with "I know it's true" before turning to the response, "it's my joy to honor you." Joy rather than obligation is the stated reaction.

The close is minimal. "In all I do, I honor you" widens the devotion to ordinary living, and the last lines settle on "you are my king" and "Jesus, you are my king," repeated without further argument. The exchange of condemnation for acceptance reflects 2 Corinthians 5:21, the dying love matches Romans 5:8, and the personal tone recalls Galatians 2:20.
