I Look To The King

A battlefield is the setting from the first line: "On the battlefield where the fight is waged, my enemy is real and my courage fades." Meredith Andrews does not hide the fear, then she raises her eyes with a question borrowed from Psalm 121:1, "I lift my eyes, where does my help come from?" The answer is the title, "I look to the King."

The chorus names Him with an old formula, "Eternal, immortal, invincible God," close to the description in 1 Timothy 1:17. "I stand on the Rock of Ages, my Savior, He conquered it all" recalls Isaiah 26:4, which calls the Lord an everlasting rock.

A second verse looks ahead to "the battlefield of all that lies ahead" and says "here Your blood will speak a greater word than death," an echo of Hebrews 12:24 about the blood that speaks better than Abel's. The ending repeats "victorious, You are victorious, reigning over us forevermore." The lyric is brief at about 571 characters, with the verse and chorus carrying the argument.
