Heart Change

Song Meaning

Olivia Lane diagnoses a divided culture in "Heart Change" and prescribes something deeper than a better argument. The opening lines describe trying to find peace in a world where people keep "ripping each other to pieces," trading "I'm right, you're wrong" reasons without even agreeing to disagree. The chorus names the problem: there is "a fine line between passion and hate," and words alone do not fix what comes from "a cold dark place."

The second verse turns the lens inward. Everyone wants to repair the world "without pointing fingers at themselves," yet the real fix "comes when you start to fix yourself." Grace is framed as a shared need, since we all "make mistakes" while running different races. The bridge softens the tone further with "When you let yourself be wrong, you might be closer to being right," and the image "hearts are red, not black and white."

The closing lines reject despair about the past: we cannot rewrite it, but we can "start a brand new page." That hope for inward renewal parallels Ezekiel 36:26, where God promises a new heart, and the song's call for peace fits Matthew 5:9.

Tryna find peace in a world we keep ripping each other to pieces
Too many back and forth I'm right, you're wrong reasons
Can't even agree to disagree, we just believe what we believe
Tryna find peace in a world somebody please help me see it

There's a fine line between passion and hate
Words don't help the problem coming from a cold dark place
It's a hard thing to do, easy to say
We need a heart change

Everyone wanna fix the world without pointing fingers at themselves
But a real fix comes when you start to fix yourself
We all race a different race, make mistakes, need some grace
At the end of the day everybody's got a choice to make

There's a fine line between passion and hate
Words don't help the problem coming from a cold dark place
It's a hard thing to do, easy to say
We need a heart change

When you let yourself be wrong
You might be closer to being right
It's in our blood to love
Hearts are red, not black and white

There's a fine line between passion and hate
Words don't help the problem coming from a cold dark place
It's a hard thing to do, easy to say
We can't rewrite the past but we can start a brand new page
It's a hard thing to do, easy to say
We need a heart change
We need a heart change
