Only Love

Point of Grace opens "Only Love" with a nautical memory rather than a direct statement of faith — "I have sailed a boat or two, out on the wild blue yonder, to dreams that rarely come true" — admitting most of what's been chased hasn't actually arrived.

"As far as I can see from the island of green, I can put my trust in just one thing" narrows an entire life's worth of searching down to a single object. The chorus states that object plainly and repeatedly — "only love sails straight from the harbor, and only love will lead us to the other shore" — and "out of all the flags I've flown, one flies high and stands alone" credits one commitment above every other cause the singer has carried.

"Peaceful waters, raging sea, it's all the same to me" extends the sailing metaphor to claim stability regardless of circumstance, and "when the waves come crashing down and the thunder rolls around, I can feel my feet on solid ground" pairs an unstable image with an oddly solid one on purpose. The closing repeated chorus, trailing into an unfinished "only love...," lets the title stand alone as the song's final, unadorned word.
