The Giver And The Gift

Envy of the people in the Christmas story starts Point of Grace's song. "Three men and a star in the sky, oh what I would give for a wisdom so bright," the first verse says, and then "one girl with a journey to make, oh how I wish I was that brave." The singer wants the faith the wise men and Mary had, "fearless, shameless, faith through the dark," the story told in Matthew 2:2 and Luke 1.

The chorus answers in the voice of Christ: "You say come to me, wait no more, I give you all you're asking for. Forget the lies this world has told, I'll wrap your life in linen gold." The invitation echoes Matthew 11:28, and "I'm more than just only one night that's holy" pushes against reducing Christmas to a single evening.

The last line gives the song its title: "I'm your star and I'm your wish, 'cause I am both the giver and the gift." That matches John 3:16 and Luke 2:11, where God gives a Savior. A second verse imagines a child "born in the night, too young to know what is meant for his life," who will "love more than anyone can." The song also mentions a snowy Christmas Eve, "white and it glows," as a picture of what the singer hopes to become.
