Song Meaning

A countdown opens the song, "6 5 4 3 2 1," with the speaker awake until morning after "a wild one," a "dark one." Sarah Reeves turns her own songwriting into therapy: "singing myself heartbreak songs" because the voice "helps me heal." She hopes someone "in a similar boat" will feel "a little more less alone," and then prays plainly, "Pray to the Lord can you please help my soul."

The second verse is the most candid. She walks in public "putting on my happy face," saying "I'm doing fine" while "underneath I'm slowly dying," and she describes stuffing problems down and drowning them in music. Having "learned about the grieving cycle," she admits she is "still at stage 1 in denial." Then comes the turn: "I think it's time to be honest with me."

The refrain is a promise to the listener and to herself: "Fear is a lie, we'll be alright," and "one day you're gonna get back your fight." Psalm 34:18 says the Lord is near the brokenhearted, Isaiah 41:10 answers fear with God's presence, and 2 Timothy 1:7 says fear is not from God.

6 5 4 3 2 1
Counting down till morning comes
Been a wild one been a dark one
Devil's playground hope he had fun

Do re mi fa so la
Singing myself heartbreak songs
Got a voice I can't avoid it
Helps me heal so I exploit it

Maybe someone's in a similar boat
Hope that you feel a little more less alone

Pray to the Lord can you please help my soul
Knock on the door are you out there hello

Fear is a lie, we'll be alright
Don't let this battle takes days off your life
Sun's gonna shine future is bright
Promise one day you're gonna get back your fight
Promise one day you're gonna get back your fight
Promise one day you're gonna get back your fight

Walk in a public place putting on my happy face
How are you, I'm doing fine
But underneath I'm slowly dying
Stuff all my problems down, make some music drown it out
Learned about the grieving cycle
Still at stage 1 in denial

I think it's time to be honest with me
Healing is hard think we all would agree
Hell got it's wish, got me keeping busy
Verdict is in everybody's guilty

Fear is a lie, we'll be alright
Don't let this battle takes days off your life
Sun's gonna shine future is bright
Promise one day you're gonna get back your fight
Promise one day you're gonna get back your fight
Promise one day you're gonna get back your fight

Promise one day you're gonna get back your fight
Promise I promise I promise you
Promise one day you're gonna get back your fight
Promise one day you're gonna get back your fight
