God Is Love

Each verse starts with "How great this love" and then gives that love a job: it moves mountains, casts out fear, welcomes the singer "like family," stays faithful "through my failures," and sits "closer than a brother." The progression ends at the cross in plain words, "This is love He died so I could live."

The refrain turns from the gift to the giver. "He is good and He is God," the singer says, then sets "what I earned" against "what I got" and "what I deserve" against "what I find," placing justice and kindness side by side. The question "What more could I say about Him" answers itself with "My God is love."

A long stretch of "I know my God is love" and "This is enough" acts as a resting place. First John 4:8 and 4:18 sit closest to the text, Romans 5:8 to the cross, and Proverbs 18:24 to the friend closer than a brother.
