I'm Alive

Change from the inside out drives “I’m Alive.” Something “deep within is welling up in praise,” and “unfailing love” is compelling the singer toward losing life in order to find it. The refrain carries the weight of the song, repeating “You have resurrected my heart from the grave” before landing on a plain declaration: “I’m alive.”

Midway through, the language turns from praise to identity. “You are telling me who I really am” leads straight into “I’ve been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but He lives in me,” lifted almost word for word from Galatians 2:20, and the lines about the One who “loved me and gave Himself for me” echo that same verse. The pairing of old life and new life also recalls Ephesians 2:4-5, where God, rich in mercy, makes the dead alive in Christ.

A closing quotation of “Amazing Grace” (“I once was lost but now I’m found, was blind but now I see”) ties the personal testimony to the oldest hymn of rescue, and Jesus’ words in Matthew 16:25 about losing one’s life to find it supply the ache of the opening verse. Resurrection here is lived experience rather than a distant doctrine.
