Jesus Loves Me

Chains and a stone heart open the first verse: "I was lost I was in chains / The world had a hold of me." The narrator is not climbing toward God. Christ "came for me," and the refrain that follows, "I couldn't run couldn't run from His presence," treats His pursuit as inescapable and welcome rather than threatening.

The second verse moves from rescue to its effect: a "fire deep in my soul" and a step "out of the dark and into the light / When He called my name." The chorus keeps the claim small and repeated, "Jesus He loves me... He is for me," while the line "how can it be" is left as wonder rather than explanation.

The bridge turns to the cross. The One who "holds the stars" also holds a heart "with healing hands that bear the scars," and the rugged cross where He died is named the singer's "only hope." That pairing of cosmic scale and personal tenderness sits close to Romans 8:31, Romans 5:8, and John 10:3, where the shepherd calls his own sheep by name.
