Lead Me To The Cross

Redemption's hill is where the song begins: a quieted soul asked to remember the place where blood “was spilled / For my ransom.” Shane & Shane keep the opening verse spare, then land on a single line of reckoning, “Everything I once held dear / I count it all as loss.”

The chorus is a plea rather than a statement. “Bring me to my knees” and “Rid me of myself” move from the cross as a destination to the self as the thing that has to be set down. The second verse supplies the reason, naming Christ as tempted and tried, fully human, the Word made flesh who bore sin and death, and then, in one short line, “Now You're risen.” Near the end the repeated “Lead me to Your heart” shifts the prayer from the place of sacrifice to the love behind it.

Philippians 3:8 stands behind the “count it all as loss” line, John 1:14 behind the Word becoming flesh, Hebrews 4:15 behind “tempted and tried,” and Galatians 2:20 behind the surrender of self to the One who gave Himself.
