Scandal Of Grace

A question opens the song and stays heavy: "Grace, what have You done?" Shane & Shane answer in courtroom terms. Christ was "murdered for me on that cross," "accused in absence of wrong," and the singer's sin is "washed away in Your blood." The writing admits there is "too much to make sense of it all," yet trusts that this love "breaks my fall."

The chorus supplies the title phrase, "the scandal of grace, You died in my place, so my soul will live," and follows it with a resolve to "give all I have just to know You." Verse two turns to victory over death. The line "Death, where is your sting?" quotes the apostle's taunt, and the singer says the cross "has taught me to live" and gives "mercy, my heart now to sing." Even tomorrow's trouble gets an answer: "I know that Your strength is enough."
