Shane & Shane keep Joseph Mohr's hymn text fully intact across all three verses, letting the opening stay purely still: "all is calm, all is bright... sleep in heavenly peace." Nothing disrupts the quiet before the second verse's shepherds arrive.

"Shepherds quake at the sight, glories stream from heaven afar, heavenly hosts sing alleluia" introduces the only real motion in the carol — fear and worship together, which tracks closer to Luke's actual account than a purely peaceful telling would.

The third verse moves from description to identity: "Son of God, love's pure light... with the dawn of redeeming grace." Isaiah's promise of a dawning light for people walking in darkness sits behind that image directly, and the angels' announcement of a Savior's birth gives the whole carol its plot — Shane & Shane's version doesn't change any of that inheritance, it just adds two more voices to it.
