Since Your Love

Shane & Shane's “Since Your Love” is a short, quiet worship song about what changes when God's love takes hold of a life. It begins by calling him the light and the song of the singer's life, the voice inside that always leads, and the one love that has no one before it.

The central lines are a confession about purpose. Everything the singer is points to God, and he says he was made by him and made for him. Without full communion, he says, he is unfulfilled. The chorus gives the result of that love: since it got a hold of him, he is a new creation and forever changed. The song ends with a short list of needs, saying that in God is all he needs, that God is his breath, his life and his everything. The wording is plain, with few images, so the song gives a listener room to reflect rather than follow a story. A congregation can sing it at the start of a quiet set, during communion, or at the end of a night when the atmosphere has softened. It also works for a person writing a prayer of thanks after a hard stretch, because it names no particular situation and keeps its attention on who God is and what his love does inside a person.

Becoming a new creation is 2 Corinthians 5:17. All things made through and for him are Colossians 1:16, and longing for God is Psalm 63:1.
