Trust You
Song Meaning
Shane & Shane's “Trust You” is a quiet worship song about placing confidence in God. It opens by addressing him as the Father of heavenly lights and the fount of wisdom and love, before whom everything is laid bare. He knows the singer's ways, and the singer believes he will provide all that is needed.
The chorus is a vow: I will not fear anymore, for I will, ever, trust you, Jesus, trust you with my life. The second verse names him the God of mercy and might who knew the singer before birth and called him by name, and the only possible response is to fall and adore him and to want to know him more. The bridge borrows from the prophet Jeremiah. Let not the wise trust in their wisdom, let not the strong boast in their might, and let not the rich glory in their riches. The final line repeats that the singer will trust God instead. The slow tempo and the guitar-led arrangement give the words room to sink in, and the short chorus makes it easy for a group to learn in one pass. It fits a service about anxiety or provision, a time of waiting, or a personal devotion on a day when money, ability and knowledge all seem to fall short and the better option is to rest in the one who made and knows you.
The Father of lights is James 1:17. Boasting only in knowing the Lord is Jeremiah 9:23, and days written before one of them came to be is Psalm 139:16.
Fount of wisdom and love
All is laid bare in your sight
You know my ways
I believe you will provide all I need in my life
I will not fear anymore
For I will, ever...
Trust you, Jesus
Trust you, Jesus
Trust you with my life
You hold the world in your hands
God of mercy and might
Knew me before I was born
Called me by Name
How could I ever respond but to fall and adore
I love to know You more
Lord I will, ever...
Trust you, Jesus
Trust you, Jesus
Trust you with my life
Let not the wise trust in their wisdom
Let not the strong boast in their might
Let not the rich glory in riches
I will trust You
Trust you, Jesus
Trust you, Jesus
Trust you with my life
