Victory
Song Meaning
A question starts "Victory" by Shane & Shane: "Would I give you all I have? / What do I have to give that you don't already own?" The song works toward the answer that nothing was ever the singer's to begin with, and then asks what could be great about a life apart from "the one and only God living inside." Twice the verse lands on the same line, "I'm yours, You've made me great."
The center is a short line sung before each chorus, "Your steadfast love gives," followed by the repeated "the victory, the victory, the victory." Victory here is received rather than won. The bridge answers itself in echoes of "You made me great," and the closing lines settle on "Your love has made me great," crediting God's love instead of the singer's effort.
The scripture links are direct: David's admission in 1 Chronicles 29 that everything given to God came from God's own hand, the greatness of Psalm 18:35, the steadfast love of Psalm 136, and victory through Jesus in 1 Corinthians 15.
Would I give you all I have?
What do I have to give that you don't already own?
I'm yours, You've made me great
[Verse 2]
Oh what could be great about my life
None other than the one and only God living inside?
I'm yours, You've made me great
[Pre-Chorus]
Your steadfast love gives
[Chorus]
The victory, the victory, the victory
Oh Your love has made me great
[Bridge]
Great (you have made me great)
You made me great (you have made me great)
You made me great (you have made me great)
[Pre-Chorus]
Your steadfast love gives
[Chorus]
The victory, the victory, the victory
Your steadfast love gives
[Chorus]
The victory, the victory, the victory
Oh your love has made me
Your love has made me
Your love has made me great
