Lay It On The Altar

Real-life trouble is named in plain terms here. Someone is "living scared cause of what the doctor said," told they have "two months left"; someone else faces a house "being foreclosed." Against both, Tamela Mann answers, "I do believe the report of the Lord," and the refrain gives the instruction in four-fold repetition: "Whatever the problem, lay it on the altar."

Confidence builds with each verse. "Though weapons will be formed, but they will not prosper" draws directly on Isaiah 54:17, and the second verse shifts to provision, God as "a holy co-signer, unlimited Supplier, a generous Provider," with a mansion already prepared. The foreclosure verse has a gracious twist: "Tell the enemy everything he stole, he can keep," because the Father is rich enough to replace it.

A closing section points to the reason the altar works: "There's Someone who paid the cost." A spoken aside, "I don't even know what a problem is," moves from bravado to testimony, then the song lands on "All you gotta do is lay it down." Casting every burden on God appears in 1 Peter 5:7, and the promise that God supplies every need is in Philippians 4:19.
