O Come All Ye Faithful
Song Meaning
Tenth Avenue North plays the old carol with studio banter left in: an "Alright boys" at the start, a "swing it" and a call to the drummer boy partway through, and a closing aside about shutting the door. The words themselves stay traditional.
The invitation runs from "joyful and triumphant" faithful heading to Bethlehem to choirs of angels and "citizens of heaven above" singing in exaltation. The refrain "O come, let us adore Him" repeats three times before landing on "Christ the Lord." The last verse addresses Jesus directly, greeting Him "born this happy morning" and naming Him "Word of the Father, now in the flesh appearing."
That final line is John 1:14 in carol form, and the angelic glory-to-God is the chorus of Luke 2:14, with Luke 2:11 supplying the announcement of a Savior who is Christ the Lord.
Alright boys
O come, all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come ye, o come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord
Sing choirs of angels
Sing in exaltation
O sing all ye citizens of heaven above
Glory to God
All glory in the highest
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord
Yeah, swing it
Go ahead drummer boy
Yea, Lord, we greet Thee
Born this happy morning
Jesus, to Thee be the glory given
Word of the Father
Now in the flesh appearing
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord
Go ahead Jamie, shut the door
