He Will Abide

Life is pictured as a "winding river" that runs through valleys low and wide, with two guides named right away: the holy word and the Saviour at one's side. The Collingsworth Family keep that image steady while the second verse admits the rougher parts, the "days of disappointment" and times of testing when the traveler is weary.

The chorus gives the answer, repeating "He will abide" through rain and rising times, "until every tear is dried." The promise of a constant presence calls up John 14:16, and the valley imagery suits Psalm 23:4. The dried tears point ahead to Revelation 21:4, where God wipes every tear away.

The last verse turns outward to anyone whose heart is searching and longing to be satisfied, offering "a life that's worth the living" with the Saviour alongside. The song closes by repeating the chorus line, so the final word is a promise about His staying power rather than a request.
