Unchurched

Todd Dulaney narrates the discomfort of walking into a church that doesn't fit in "Unchurched" — "I wonder why they look at me strange, like I don't belong on this row... I know I'm not dressed like everyone else, and I don't own a pair of church shoes." The specific detail of clothing keeps the exclusion concrete rather than abstract.

"I heard that church was the place to come for my healing, but somehow I can't see how that's so, everyone seems to be so uneasy" names the gap between what church is supposed to offer and what's actually being experienced, without pretending the discomfort isn't real.
