Will Reagan keeps "If It's Okay" reduced to a single, repeated, almost timid request — "I really need you to stay, if it's okay, it's okay, please stay." The qualifier "if it's okay" undercuts the urgency of "really need," as if the request itself feels like an imposition even while being made.

"Feeling sorry for myself, don't like asking, but I need your help" names the discomfort of asking directly, and "took a book right off the shelf, read a lot, but don't know what I felt, can't imagine feeling whole, as the book took its toll" describes searching for an answer in reading alone and coming up short — information without the presence it was meant to stand in for.

The chorus's long, repeated "it's okay, it's okay" closes the song without ever resolving into a clear answer, leaving the plea to stay exactly where it started — asked honestly, but still, by the song's own admission, uncertain whether it will be granted.
