Take A Moment
Song Meaning
A three-line refrain does most of the work here: “Take a moment to remember / Who God is and who I am,” followed by “There You go lifting my load again.” It repeats three times before anything else is sung, so the song begins as a deliberate slowing down, a habit of pausing to place oneself rightly before God.
The turn comes with the yoke imagery. The singer is “no longer held by the yoke of this world” and is invited to “come up under the yoke of Jesus,” whose “yoke is easy” and whose “burden is so light.” The short cry “You’re lifting my load” makes the exchange personal rather than abstract: the weight is not argued away, it is carried by Someone else.
The ending settles on being carried: “Your love carries me / Out of valleys and the darkest places.” That mirrors Jesus’ invitation to the weary and burdened in Matthew 11:28–30, and the valley language recalls Psalm 23:4. Sung slowly and repeated, it works as a short prayer of rest for anyone who needs to stop striving and remember whose they are.
Take a moment to remember
Who God is and who I am
There You go lifting my load again
Take a moment to remember
Who God is and who I am
There You go lifting my load again
Take a moment to remember
Who God is and who I am
There You go lifting my load again
No longer am I held by
The yoke of this world
Come up under the yoke of Jesus
His yoke is easy and His burden is so light
His burden is so light
You're lifting my load
You're lifting my load
No longer am I held by
The yoke of this world
Come up under the yoke of Jesus
His yoke is easy and His burden is so light
Your love carries
Your love carries me
Out of valleys and the darkest places
