The Allstars Kids Club version of “The Blessing” brings the song by Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes and Elevation Worship to a children's audience. The group recorded it during lockdown, with the studio work done at home and parts of the video filmed on mobile phones by children and leaders around the world. The sound is simple, with strings and guitars that leave the words clear for young singers.
The verse is the Priestly Blessing, “The Lord bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord turn His face towards you and give you peace,” followed by a single “Amen.” The bridge adds the promises that have made the song a favorite, “May His favor be upon you and a thousand generations, and your family and your children, and their children.” It continues, “May His presence go before you and behind you and beside you, all around you and within you,” and ends with moments of ordinary life, “in the morning, in the evening, in your coming and your going,” and “He is for you.”
The blessing is Numbers 6:24-26. A thousand generations is Deuteronomy 7:9, and God behind and before is Psalm 139:5.
