Kind

Amanda Cook begins by dismantling fearful pictures of God. He is neither a tyrant who enjoys suffering nor an angry ruler driven by insecurity or contempt. In their place, the song notices a voice that is sure, eyes that are soft, and a countenance marked by confidence. The repeated declaration “You are kind” becomes a theological correction: divine authority and tenderness belong together.

Kindness then moves from character into action. God’s love sweeps away dust, turns wandering feet toward home, carries orphans, and tends what has been broken. The surprising phrase “Your love is a fury all its own” gives gentleness force without turning it into threat. Romans 2:4 supplies the song’s central logic, teaching that God’s kindness leads people to repentance. Psalm 68:5 reflects the care shown toward the fatherless, and 1 John 4:18 supports the closing conviction that mature love drives out fear and punishment. Rather than motivating devotion through terror, “Kind” presents restoration as the fruit of encountering love strong enough to heal, welcome, and bring people home.
