Don't Run Away

Questions carry both verses. "Does your head keep turnin'?" "Are the things you're chasin' worth your while?" "Don't you ever question why you're always guessin' reasons for your life?" Amy Grant speaks like a friend who has noticed the restlessness and decides to say so gently before it grows into something heavier.

The turn comes with the line "Long ago the savior died for you," which grounds the plea in what has already been done. The chorus is blunt by comparison: "You're headed nowhere," a warning that the road ends in loneliness, and then the invitation, "Please turn back now." The second verse names fear of losing and "a burnin' need for love" as the pressures that push people away, and it describes hate igniting fear of love inside a person.

God appears as the one who waits: "He'll remove the hating part of you." That picture matches Jonah's flight in Jonah 1:3 and the psalmist's discovery in Psalm 139:7-10 that there is nowhere to run from God's presence, while Romans 5:8 sits behind the claim that Christ died while people were still far off. The chorus closes with the request to "give Him all of your love."
