Love Has Come
Song Meaning
Christmas morning starts from a parent's vantage point: “Hurry now wake up your eyes,” little ones are about to find a surprise “beneath the Christmas tree.” Amy Grant lets the speaker see their own childhood in the kids' faces, “like a fairytale come true,” before the chorus lifts the view to the larger story: “Love has come / For the world to know.”
That chorus ties the living room to Bethlehem, pointing to the wisemen and to angels singing that “hope had begun” when the God of Glory, “full of mercy,” sent His Son. The second verse returns to the toys and the hunt to “look high and low,” then sets them against a claim: no gift compares to “Jesus' love inside.” The presents are not scolded, only placed second to the greatest gift the world has known.
Luke 2:11 gives the birth announcement behind the angels' song, John 3:16 the sending of the Son that the chorus echoes, and Matthew 2:11 the wise men's gifts that frame the line about those who knew “such a long time ago.”
Hurry now wake up your eyes
Time for little ones to see
Daddy's got a big surprise
Hiding there beneath the Christmas tree
How they are like the child in me
See the wonder in their eyes
Like a fairytale come true
One more time I realize
All the love our lives found in you
[Chorus:]
Love has come
For the world to know
As the wisemen knew
Such a long time ago
And I believe that the angels sang
That hope had begun
When the God of Glory
Who is full of mercy
Sent His Son
If I could have a special dream
Coming true on Christmas morn'
I would want the world to see
How His Father smiled when Christ was born
The greatest gift the world has known
So come on kids, look high and low
For all the toys you've dreamed to find
But I believe you'll never know
A greater joy than Jesus' love inside
[Chorus 2x]
