Big Feelings

Children supply the central image: "little bodies with big feelings," pictured as monsters trapped under soft ceilings, pushing everything down until it has to come out. The chorus answers with a plain invitation to say it out loud, since strong emotions are compared to "deep blue oceans" that reveal their beauty once they are spoken.

The verses get wilder from there. Laughter should "crack like thunder," tears should "stream down like rain," and joy is set beside pain as companions instead of opposites. The line "Let your heart break into healing" carries the turn of the whole piece, treating brokenness as the road through rather than a failure to hide.

Near the end the same children are staring at stars, dreaming until "morning chases the shadows down," and the credit goes to love: "Love's the one who let the light out." No verse is quoted, yet the lyric lines up with the Psalmist's promise that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted, the preacher's time to weep and a time to laugh, and mourning turned into dancing.
