Waiting Room

Andrew Ripp opens with exhaustion rather than composure: "I've had enough, how long's a man supposed to count on luck? Waiting out a storm that won't let up." The question "how long?" gets asked outright, not dressed up as patience.

"I wonder now if God is on my side, are all my prayers just bouncing off the sky?" names the specific fear underneath the waiting — not just that the news might be bad, but that no one might actually be listening. The song doesn't answer that fear quickly; it just keeps sitting in the waiting room repeating "hoping to hear good news."

The psalmist asked the identical question centuries earlier — "how long, O Lord, will you forget me forever?" — without pretending the wait didn't hurt, and Paul's description of the Spirit interceding with groanings too deep for words matches a song more comfortable admitting doubt than performing certainty. "I wanna hear your heart beat once again" turns the waiting room into a specific, physical hope rather than an abstract one.
