God Story

Anne Wilson's “God Story” is a testimony that begins at the bottom. “I've gone where the hopeless go, the dead end of broken road,” the first verse says, and describes a place “so low you can't see your way out.” Being “stuck in a ditch so deep” sets up the turn: “I'm still here, and there could only be one way how.”

The chorus claims the whole life for God, “my life is a God story,” with “miracles on miracles that only He could do.” One line widens the claim to everyone, “we're all only one prayer away from a testimony.” In the verse that follows she says she can see his fingerprints “on every single page,” and the bridge piles up contrasts: “from death to life, from blind to sight,” “from lost to found,” “from old to new.” The song names the one who “brought me back from hell” and turns “all is wrong” into “it is well.”

Death to life and old to new match Ephesians 2:5 and 2 Corinthians 5:17. The blind-to-sight line recalls the man healed in John 9:25, who says he was blind and now sees.
